The Federation along with
its partner, Lincoln Land Community College, collaborates on the youth project
Nothing But Achievers or (NBA) Program. The NBA program is made
possible by a grant from the Sangamon County Department of Community
Resources, under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The NBA program
targets high school non-graduates, ages 17-21, and places them in a
structured and caring learning environment where they build self-esteem,
learn to work in teams, set goals and develop leadership skills.
Participants receive group and individualized instruction for the GED, life
skills training, mentoring, counseling, employment training and assistance,
job shadowing, vocational exploration, and one year of follow-up services.
|
|
Additional services provided are:
transportation, lunch,
bi-weekly stipends, no-out-of-pocket expenses related to the initial GED
test, video-taped mock interview experience.
Recruitment is on going. Any interested individuals must meet income
guidelines and be selected for the program.

Quote from participants:
“The NBA program has
helped me with self-confidence, communication skills, and has helped my
personality on my road to becoming a man. Also, they helped me on my goals
and more
morals in life.”
“The
NBA program has helped me with several things, like: attitude, GED,
self-confidence, and is assisting me with my goal of becoming a nurse.” |
