Job Seekers

In July 2006, the Springfield Community Federation was awarded a grant through the United States Department of Labor Workforce Investment Act. This grant was designed to create collaborations and partnerships between grassroots community organizations, like the Springfield Community Federation, and local "One Stop Shop" employment agencies, such as the Illinois Employment and Training Center.

The purpose of these collaborations is to provide assistance to individuals who need more individualized attention and instruction in navigating the job search process.  For this reason, a Job Coach position was created as part of the grant. As part of the Springfield Community Federation’s Job Seekers Program, a Job Coach is available, free of charge, to individuals looking for a job.

 

The Job Coach provides the following to clients enrolled in Job Seekers:

Regular Contact

Individualized Appointments

bullet

Individual Work Plan

bullet

Assistance in obtaining a GED, conducting job searches, completing job applications, preparing a resume, preparing for interviews, enrolling in post-secondary and/ or job training programs, or enlisting in military service

bullet

Post employment follow up and mentoring for a period of six months

bullet

Participation in a weekly Job Seeker Support Group that includes opportunities for training and skills development

Support Services

The Job Club is a support service of the Job Seekers program. It is held at the Illinois Employment and Training Services Facility at 1300 S. Ninth Street in Springfield, IL. 62703.

Job Clubs are held on Fridays from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. There are guest speakers who provide information on job training as well as information on available jobs. The Job Club participants also have a weekly agenda that covers a variety of employment topics.
